Finglas Driving Test Centre-Pass Your Driving Test

In today’s video, we’ll be discussing the Finglas Driving Test Centre, one of the largest in the country. For many learner drivers, the thought of taking their driving test at this centre can be intimidating, partly because the testers there sometimes have a reputation for being less than “friendly.”

However, it’s important to remember that when it comes to your driving test, the testers are not there to be your friends. Their responsibility is to determine whether you’re going to be a safe driver or not. I often remind my students to focus on their own performance rather than worry about whether the tester seems “nice.” As I tell them, “You have a job to do, and so does the tester—you’re not there to be friends.”

If you’d like to test your knowledge and see if you’re ready to pass your driving test, please take part in our quiz. Click here to take the quiz—it only takes around three minutes.

Finally, don’t forget to check out one of our latest Finglas driving test routes. Enjoy!

The Stop Lines Driving Out Of The Finglas Driving Test Centre

One of the first challenges on the Finglas driving test route is all the stop lines as we drive out of the Finglas test centre. These tricky stop lines can be detrimental to your driving test result. In the video, you’ll see I fully stop and then look right and left. Additionally, there is no need to use your handbrake here. Countless amounts of people fail their driving test at these stop lines for not fully stopping.

How to Avoid Rolling Over A Stop Line Without Stopping

To avoid rolling over a stop line without stopping, first, drive up to the stop line and stop before looking right and left. If you do it like this, you will fully stop the car every time. Once stopped, you can now look right and left, and if it is safe to do so, proceed.

2. The Narrow Roads Around The Willows

In this Finglas driving test route, the Finglas driving tester will bring you around the Willows housing estate. In this housing estate, there are so many twists and turns. Secondly, the tester will ask you to demonstrate your turnabout and the reverse around the corner here.

Turning Left And Right

In this area the tester will be watching you closely, especially to your position and observation. Remember, when you get the direction, we use MSPSL and when we steer, we look where we are going

3. Tricky Traffic Light Turning Onto Ballymun Road

As you will see in the video, I turn right onto Ballymun Road. This can cause learner drivers many problems in their driving test at the Finglas test centre. The traffic light stays green for only a short few seconds. Additionally, when you turn right onto Ballymun Road, be sure to drive into the middle lane.

Correct Position On Roads With More Than One Lane

Although it looks like we could drive into any lane on Ballymun Road, be mindful that during your driving test in Finglas, the tester will want to see you drive into the middle lane. On this road in particular, the left lane is a bus lane, and the right lane would be considered the overtaking lane.

4. Turning Right at the Traffic Lights

Turning right at the traffic lights on Finglas test route 7 can be confusing. In this case, the solid green traffic light usually means you proceed to the middle of the junction and wait for oncoming traffic to pass before turning. However, it appears that we have the right of way at these lights. Ideally, a green right arrow should be displayed to make this clearer.

Tips for Turning Right at the Traffic Lights

Turning right at traffic lights can be confusing. Watch the video below for a full explanation of what to do when turning right at traffic lights during your driving test.

5. Reverse Around the Corner

Lastly, let’s discuss the reverse around the corner on this Finglas test route. This manoeuvre is straightforward, but always remember to move off correctly from a parked position once you finish the reverse.

Tips for Reversing Around the Corner

Watch the video below for a detailed guide on reversing around a corner during your driving test.

Conclusion

Navigating the Finglas driving test route presents several challenges, from busy housing estates and busy dual carriageways. By understanding these specific difficulties and practicing the provided tips, you can improve your driving skills and boost your confidence. Whether it’s mastering hill starts, maintaining the correct position on narrow roads, executing complex right turns, or reversing around corners, preparation is key.

1.Charlestown Shopping Centre

So many people fail their driving test in Finglas test centre for this alone. The driving tester would expect to see you come into the left hand lane but it can be difficult to know that because of the road layout. Remember in your driving test, the left hand lane would be the preferred lane. You can read the full break down of the marking sheet guidelines on the link below

2.Mini roundabouts in Finglas at Ballygall Parade

Next we are going to talk about the mini roundabouts at Ballygall Parade. These mini roundabouts are extremely narrow and you will need to use all your skills to get around them safely. I do recommend using 1st gear for these mini roundabouts, especially when we are turning to the right. If you want to see the full Finglas test route where I tackle these mini roundabouts, you can watch the Finglas driving test route below

3.Turning Right At Traffic Lights into Ballymun

Next I will be showing you the junction where we will be turning right into Ballymun. Turning right at the yellow box junctions always causes driving test applicants problems. Applicants usually fail their driving test for progress at traffic lights for not going up to the middle of the junction at a green circle light. I created a video explaining exactly what to do when turning right at traffic lights, you can see the video below

4.Turning Right Onto The Ballymun Road

Next we will show you the correct way to turn onto the Ballymun road. People often fail their driving test for not doing this correctly. If you steer too early and drive in the right lane, will will get a grade 2 fault for position turning right. If you drive in the right lane for a short period of time you will get a grade 2 for position on the straight. If you continue to drive in the right lane you will pick up more grade 2 faults for position on the straight and you could fail your driving test if you get 4 grade 2 faults for the same thing

5. Reverse Around The Corner At Dunsink Avenue

In my opinion, this is the most difficult reverse around the corner I have ever done. It is on a busy road with lots of passing traffic. Also, the reverse itself seems to go on forever. It bends around a lot longer than most reverse around the corners and it never seems to straighten up. I recommend practicing this if you have your driving test in Finglas or Charlestown driving test centre.

The pass rate at Finglas driving test centre is 43.6%. You can check this webpage on the link below
